What HIP does

The Homeless Information Pages (HIP) project is run by Glasgow Homelessness Network.

The HIP Project was set up in 2002 to address the lack of accurate and accessible information for homeless people in Glasgow. The original version of this website was produced to fill that gap.

It became clear that the barriers of Internet access and IT skills could prevent homeless people from accessing the information on the website, so the idea of a mobile IT outreach unit was born.

As well as this website, the HIP Project provides an IT capacity building service to voluntary sector organisations connected with homelessness in Glasgow.

If your organisation becomes involved with the HIP Project, we will work with you for six months. The aim is to build the IT capacity of your organisation to enable you to provide supported access to computer facilities for your services users.

We will:

  • work with you to identify sources of funding and help you make applications for funds to buy your own IT equipment
  • provide one computer session a week for your service users using our mobile equipment
  • provide ongoing training to staff members and service user volunteers which will allow the sessions to continue after the six month period has ended

Some of the organisations we have worked with in the past include:

  • Blue Triangle Housing Association
  • CrossReach
  • The Mungo Foundation
  • Glasgow Simon Community
  • YMCA
  • Quarriers
  • Wayside Day Centre
  • Lodging House Mission

If you are a service user at an organisation where there are no computer facilities, or they're too old to be useful, ask a member of staff to get in touch with us to find out more.

You can email us anytime or phone us on 0141 276 4825 during office hours.
