Addiction

There are three categories of service provided to drug users in Glasgow. These are services run through the NHS Greater Glasgow, services run through the city council and voluntary sector services. It is becoming more and more common for these three agencies to work together to improve the quality of services and these services are constantly changing and developing in response to their clients' needs. This list of services gives most of the addiction services in Glasgow.

From 2003 new Community Addiction Teams (CATS) will be set up around the city combining health and social work staff.

Of particular interest to people who are homeless is the Homeless Addiction Team (see below)

Council Addiction Services

The Glasgow City Council Addiction Services are based across the nine social work areas in the city. There are two specialist services who work with homeless people and people from a black ethnic minority. The Addiction Services offer broadly similar services to anyone in who is using or at risk of using drugs or alcohol. These services include assessment, methadone clinics, care management, a counselling services, group work, access to residential rehabilitation, drug treatment and testing orders and support for families. Unless you can use the services of the Homeless Addiction Team you should contact your local service.
